The U.S. market opens in Tashkent at 18:30, when daylight saving time is in effect in the United States, and at 19:30, when the United States switches to winter time. We are talking about the main trading session of the NYSE and Nasdaq, which takes place in New York from 9:30 to 16:00 Eastern Time. According to the official Nasdaq schedule, the main session runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, the premarket from 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET, the postmarket from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET; the NYSE also indicates the main session from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET.
For a trader from Uzbekistan, the main thing is to remember not one fixed time, but two versions of the schedule. During the US summer time, the main session opens at 18:30 Tashkent time and closes at 01:00 the next day. During the US winter time, the opening is shifted to 19:30, and the closing is at 02:00 the next day.
At the time of May 2026, the US market opens at 18:30 Tashkent time, because daylight saving time is in effect in the USA. In 2026, it is valid from March 8 to November 1.
The confusion arises due to the difference in the translation of the clock. Uzbekistan uses UTC+5 time and does not set its clocks to daylight saving or winter time. This means that the time in Tashkent remains stable all year round.
The United States, on the contrary, uses daylight saving time most of the year. When New York City is living in summer time, the difference between Tashkent and New York is 9 hours. That's why 9:30 a.m. in New York turns into 6:30 p.m. in Tashkent.
When the United States returns to standard winter time, the difference becomes 10 hours. Therefore, the same 9:30 a.m. in New York turns into 19:30 in Tashkent.
In practice, it looks like this: from March to early November, the US market opens earlier for a trader from Tashkent, at 18:30; from November to March, later, at 19:30. It is better to check the exact dates of the transition each year separately, because they are tied to the US rule: daylight saving time begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November.
The very fact that the market is open does not mean that at 18:30 or 19:30 you need to immediately press the login button. The opening of the main session is the moment when the main liquidity enters the market, the volume increases sharply and large flows of orders begin to be executed.
The first minutes after opening are often the sharpest. The price can quickly pass 2-5% on a stock with news, a report, a gap, or a strong premarket movement. For a trader, this is both an opportunity and a risk. An opportunity — because there is movement. The risk is because the spread can widen, candlesticks become nervous, and the stop easily knocks out the usual opening impulse.
If you trade US stocks from Tashkent, it is better to divide the time into three zones in advance. Before the opening— preparation, selection of tickers, checking of news, levels and premarket volume. The first 5-15 minutes after opening is a high—risk area, where it is better not to enter without a clear plan. After the initial impulse, there is a more working area, where it is already visible whether the price is holding the level, whether the volume continues and whether there is a normal execution.
The main mistake is to look only at the clock and ignore the market context. If a stock opens with a gap up, but the volume drops in the first few minutes, the spread is wide, and the price cannot hold the premarket high, entering the market can give a bad price even with the right idea.
Premarket in the USA begins well before the main session. According to the Nasdaq schedule, it lasts from 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET, and the postmarket lasts from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. In terms of Tashkent, this means that during the US summer time, the premarket runs from about 13:00 to 18:30, and the postmarket runs from 01:00 to 05:00. During the US winter time, the premarket shifts to 14:00-19:30, and the postmarket to 02:00-06:00.
But for most active traders from Tashkent, the main guideline is still the opening of the main session. That's where the normal volume usually appears, the glass becomes denser, and it's better to see if the market confirms the premarket movement.
If you see the stock moving even before the opening of the main session, this is not an error in the terminal. Some shares can be traded on the premarket, but the conditions there are different from the usual session. A separate article on how the premarket works in promotions will help you figure this out.
It's better to skip the opening if you don't understand why the stock is moving. At 18:30 Tashkent time, the market can abruptly open the paper up or down, but without news, volume and an understandable level, such a deal often turns into guessing.
Another caution signal is that the spread is too wide. If the promotion costs $8, but the bid and ask differ by 10-20 cents, entry already starts with a bad price. Even if the direction is chosen correctly, part of the potential profit is eaten up by execution.
You should also be careful if the stock has already gone through most of the movement in the premarket. For example, the paper grew by 40% before the opening, and in the first minutes of the main session, the volume stopped supporting growth. In such a situation, buying at the opening often means entering at a time when early participants are already making a profit.
A separate risk for a trader from Tashkent is the late closure of the market. When the main session ends at 01:00 or 02:00 at night, it's easy to start well and then lose concentration closer to the close. If you are trading an evening session after a working day, it is better to limit the trading time in advance and not transfer a tired decision to the last hours of the market.
Before making a deal, it's enough to quickly check a few things: it's US summer or winter time, whether today is a regular trading day or holiday, what volume was on the premarket, where the key levels are, how wide the spread is, whether there is a reason for the movement and whether the action has already gone too far before the opening. If at least half of the answers remain unclear, it is better not to turn the market opening into a random deal.
The US market in Tashkent opens at 18:30 during the US summer time and at 19:30 during the US winter time. The main session closes at 01:00 or 02:00 a.m. the next day.
For practice, it is more important not just to know the opening time, but to understand that the first minutes of the main session are a zone of increased volatility. The best scenario for a trader from Tashkent is to prepare tickers before opening, wait for volume confirmation and not enter into a trade just because the market has just opened.
